NEGATIVE THINKING ANALOGY – How to “fix” it!

By Carol Sweebe

Scenario

You paint a room – it’s clean, fresh, positive!

“Someone” comes along and smears muddy handprints all over the walls!

You must now clean it and repaint it.

They come back and repeat the muddy mess!

You clean and repaint again…but then you decide to ask someone to stand “guard” at the door of the room to assure no one goes in to make a mess.

That works! The room is safe and stays clean, fresh and delightful! Yay!

Analogy

Room – Your mind

Paint – God’s Word, positive thinking

“Someone” – Satan and naysayers (Note: You can’t stop Satan from entering your mind, but you don’t have to rent him space!)

Muddy handprints – Negative thinking creating mental chaos

Repainting – You, trying to stay positive on your own (doesn’t fix the problem)

Guard – Holy Spirit; you pray and ask Him to protect your thoughts. (Verse) “Take captive every thought…”

Stays clean – Philippians 4:8 Principle: Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy…think about such things.
